Rain is good… June 26, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — Meet Me in Marlborough @ 12:44 pm
“Since the strawberries and cherries have been picked the rain is a good thing. Plants were beginning to get stressed due to the lack of water. With the current weather the farms are getting the right amount of hydration. The appropriate amount of rain is about 1″ a week for healthy working landscapes (orchards & fields).”  Farmer Chip Kent of Locust Grove Fruit Farm/MMiM Member /

FYI- “Plants are able to tolerate stress because of a built-in alarm system. In the wild, the move is a survival tactic, but for agricultural crops, the self-defense move is counterproductive, reducing yield.”
